Ozark Artist Retreat 10/2025
Following in the tradition of 2023s popular Scenic Ozarks Artists Retreat (SOAR), last years event was a tremendous success, thoroughly enjoyed by the participating artists who came from all corners of the state of Missouri. This was planned to be a plein air (outdoor) painting event, based out of Ananda Kanan Retreat Center near Willow Springs Missouri, and highlighted by a day trip to Alley Spring, on the Jacks Fork River near Eminence Missouri. Retreat Director Michael McClure served as mentor to the group, leading group discussions and demonstrations, and answering questions from some of the artists. Delicious vegetarian meals were prepared by Yumi Jolliff, who also painted with the group at the spring.
This years event will take place the weekend of October 17-19. The program starts at 5p Friday with checkin followed by dinner. After dinner Michael will discuss the weekend schedule and give a demonstration of plein air technique. Saturday will again feature a trip to Alley Spring where artists will choose their subject matter from the gorgeous fall scenery there. Sunday we will paint on location at Ananda Kanan, which features a lake lined with trees and flowers. After lunch there will be a group discussion and sharing of work done during the event.
Cost is $350 which includes a single occupancy room in the dormitory, meals and access to mentors Michael McClure and Dennis Babbit. A limited number of private cabins are available for an extra $100 /person. This event is open to artists from beginners to experienced.
